39 days MAX

OMG
where did the summer go?
it's August already?

It's been 21 days since I turned my injured camera over to the thugs at Future Shop..so only 39 days MAX left to wait. If they dont have it 'fixed' by then, I get a brand new one.
The count down is still on !  I miss my camera evryday.
sigh

I've tried taking my 'ol canon video camera around, which is pretty compact for a video camera, but it's not digital, doesn't have the dame quality...
too tedious to work with, just to get some photos.
I gotta connect the camera via firewire, to the computer, capture all the raw video, save the files, then via an editing software program, sort through the raw footage for a few good  still frames to cut, then rework those thru photoshop to clean them up, THEN cut and paste into the frickin blog
UGH
digital is the ONLY way togo, anything else seems so archaic :P

Gary's folks bought a 32foot sailboat last week.  They've moored it closeby, so this weekend we went over for a visit, to see the newest toy.
The boat house they've choosen is very old, so are the docks. All the boards were buckled, so Eryn tripped about 20 times on the walk to the end of the doc. Naturally I  had a 'death grip' on her hand, as I was petrified she'd trip herself right into the sea.
We'll be sure to get some life vests soon, and put them on as soon as we unload from the car!
Eryn LOVEd the boat, she says its her 'favourite' She enjoyed exploring all the 'secret' storage places on boats.
Their boat is docked at the end, and they've a bunch of logs tied up at the end, where there's a family of otters living. we got to watch them eat a few mussels and poke their heads up outta the water. Eryn loved that too!
Look forward to getting to take a trip out in it! Hopefully my camera & I will be reunited by then.

Aiden had an audition last week. This time for Gerber Baby Food. I think they were having the babies bang on pot and pans, for the audition. Something I know Aiden loves doing, so we'll hear this week, if he had the lil' trick they're looking for.
The audition studios are usually down near Science World Sky train Station, very close to downtown, parking is ALWAYS an issue.
I wasn't able to find anyone to take Eryn, while I took Aiden to the audition (not that I'm complaining, just warning anyone who tries to do the same)
The studios are NOT child friendly, least not toddler friendly, with unlocked glass display cases, multiple exposed outlets, various open doors into equipment rooms and board rooms etc...
So, here I am, no strollers allowed..too many people in auditioning, usually multiple projects on the go...
Don't know WHAT made me think I could take them BOTH to Aiden's audition.
GOOD LORD
for an hour I was chasing them both around, like a freaking game show!
Both kids looking and exploring things that naturally shouldn't be.
UGH
I got plenty of sympathetic looks and an occasional 'you're a busy mom' comment from the oodles of parents there with their kids..but NO help whatsoever....
I was nearly ready to give up and pack it in, but saw that Aiden's audition was finally NEXT
so, I endured a bit more...
Aidens audition lasted nearly 10 minutes, they had him playing with pots and pans...anything NOISY is something he loves, so we'll see if we get a 'call back'
but my point, aside from sharing a story I can laugh at now...is to warn you against taking in 2 toddlers for an audition, (if your kids are close together in age), unless you can command them with voice alone... spare yourself the agony....

At this time of year, in Vancouver, we have the big fireworks competition, used to be called Symphony of Fire, when the cigarette companies backed it..now it's called Celebration of Light and some other corporation is backing it.
Nearly half a million people descend on the downtown core and surrounding viewing areas, to see and hear the enormous display. each show is 25 minutes long and there's 4 nights of it.
Having lived in Vancouver for over 10 yrs. now, I've seen my share of the fireworks display, from various locations, both super close and far away.
BUT this year TOPS them all
Other than being able to see, hear and feel the firs works up close, there is nothing else attractive about it.
the crowds
the garbage
the smoke
the traffic  -jams
the noise
the rudeness
the tourists :P
the police EVERYWHERE (and nowhere else)
the parking
the transit
the eggs...
 so this year
I did something pretty clever, and truly a 'sign of the times'
FIRST
I found a website that broadcast a webcam at a prime viewing location, this one was above the burrard street bridge
THEN i found the radio station website, that broadcast the music that goes with the fireworks and did the 'listen live' part
ALSO
I was MSN-ing with  a girlfriend, told her what websites to go to, and we watched it 'together' messaging  'oooo's and ahhh's, like you would if you were right there
was pretty funny
to do that all from my desk
didn't even have to go outside
HA

that's al the time I got for now
I'll be back later to  blog a few more 'stories'
got a bit of catching up to do
I'll see if I have time to get some still of our visit to the sailboat...
but don't hold your breath
:)

karma and 'suffering'

I got this short little 'story' emailed to me (thanks Laurie)
It involved an email discussion around the 'suffering' in the middle east, in the israeli 'conflict/war'
the same conversation could be applied to anyone's' suffering
it's just a matter of how you look at it, and whether or not you want to play the part of the victim, or the part of the 'hero'

A man and his son worked their farm where they only had one plow horse.  One day the horse ran away.  The neighbors said, "Oh what a bad thing to happen!"  But the farmer said, "Who is to say what is good and what is bad."  The next day the horse came back with five wild mares from the mountains.  The neighbors then said, "What a good thing to happen to you!"  The farmer said, "Good, bad, who knows?"  Then the farmers son then broke his leg trying to train one of the mares.  The neighbors said, "This is a terrible thing!  Now you work your farm by yourself."  But again the farmer said, "Good? Bad?"
The soldiers came to gather up all the young men for war, but the farmer's son was useless to them and was left behind.

Good?  Bad?
who is to say
so my 'outrage' from yesterday's blog has been tempered with 'karma'
and The kar-mama is  'in da house' again
thanks for your reminder Laurie!

OUTRAGE !!!

I read this article off Google news today.
I've never harbored a lot of sympathy for Israel, much more for the Palestinians and Lebanese.
And now this war
i have even less respect for Israel
and tend MORE to believe the conspirators about the true nature of Israel's intentions.
and now THIS?
How can they explain this away?
oops?
sorry?
accident?
accident happens once, maybe twice  (Edie proved that with baby #2)
but to phone for 6 hours, begging the Israeli army to stop?

it's not looking good over there
and even though it's on the other side of the world, the world is so small these days, may as well be next door!

here's the article:

UN observers begged Israelis to stop shelling their position

By Steve Farrell and Nicholas Blanford

UN monitors made ten phone calls to military commanders before the air strike that killed four of them

PEACEKEEPERS spent six hours begging Israeli commanders to halt multiple air bombings near a United Nations observation post before a missile killed four unarmed observers there, it emerged last night.

UN officials said that the monitors made ten phone calls to the Israeli army between 1.20pm on Tuesday — when an Israeli aircraft dropped a bomb 300 metres from the patrol base — and about 7.20pm, when the building was destroyed.

The details came to light as Kofi Annan, the UN Secretary-General, condemned what he called an “apparently deliberate targeting” of the well- documented UN position that had stood in Khiam, southern Lebanon, for 50 years.

All the dead were part of the Observer Group — Lebanon, which works with the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil).

Amid increasing international protest, Ehud Olmert, the Israeli Prime Minister, expressed deep sorrow for the deaths of the four unarmed officers from China, Finland, Canada and Austria.

Tzipi Livni, his Foreign Minister, rejected any suggestion of a deliberate attack, describing it as unfortunate. She said: “During a war these kind of accidents can happen.”

She made clear that the bombings would continue. “Israel can continue this operation if needed in order to target Hezbollah.”

Senior UN officials and foreign diplomats said that in the hours before the deaths warning calls came from as far afield as New York. They also said that Israeli forces fired on rescue vehicles sent to recover the bodies. “The bombs were falling on the heads of our guys for six hours,” a Unifil officer told The Times. “We kept telling the Israelis that our men had been lucky so far, but next time there was going to be a tragedy and could they please correct their targeting. We were begging them to stop.”

The Irish Republic filed an official protest with Israel, in which it said that Lieutenant-Colonel John Molloy, its senior Lebanon peacekeeper and a key UN figure liaising with the Israel Defence Forces, had given six specific phone warnings about the Khiam post.

“He warned the Israelis that they were shelling in very close proximity to the post, and his warnings were very specific, explicit, detailed and stark,” said Suzanne Coogan, a spokeswoman for Willie O’Dea, the Irish Defence Minister. “Obviously those warnings went unheeded.”

Jane Lute, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping, told the Security Council that the post, which is three miles (5km) from an Israeli artillery position, came under close fire 21 times on Tuesday, suffering 12 hits within 100 metres and four direct hits. Contact was lost with the four peacekeepers inside at 7.17pm Ms Lute said that she and Mark Malloch Brown, the Deputy Secretary-General, called Israel’s mission to the UN in New York “reiterating these protests and calling for an abatement of the shelling”.

She said that Unifil secured safe passage for two armoured personnel carriers, which arrived at 9.30pm and found the shelter collapsed and severe damage to the rest of the position. Despite the agreement, she said, Israel attacked the carriers.

Dermot Ahern, the Irish Foreign Minister, said that Israeli troops fired on the Egyptian UN soldiers sent to dig out the bodies. “(It) raises questions about whether this was an accident,” he said.

Israel’s Ambassador to Beijing was summoned by China’s Foreign Ministry and asked to convey China’s request that Israel investigate the incident. “We are deeply shocked,” said Liu Jianchao, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The deaths are certain to hamper efforts to put together a multinational force to replace Unifil, which has long had a stormy relationship with Israel.

Unifil has 1,991 troops assisted by 50 military observers, but has been the subject of angry exchanges with Israel about its effectiveness in the past six years as Hezbollah established control over southern Lebanon.

An Israeli official recently told The Times that Unifil had a “co-operative relationship with Hezbollah”. However, UN personnel in Lebanon said that the bombing was merely the latest in a long history of Israeli attacks against its peacekeepers and observers.

In the past three days UN observers have reported frequent attacks close to their positions.

Heavy shelling around Khiam on Tuesday had forced the four observers into the bomb shelters. At about 1.20pm, officials say, a jet dropped a bomb only 300 metres away. The observers contacted the Unifil headquarters.

The observers warned Israel that their aircraft were dropping bombs dangerously close to a UN position. The Israelis said that they would check the situation and make any necessary adjustments, UN officials say. But jets then dropped ten bombs between 100 and 300 metres from the UN position and fired 12 artillery rounds within 150 metres, UN officials said. The fatal strike — using a “precision-guided weapon”, said UN military personnel — hit the post at about 7.20pm.

The Israel Defence Forces last night admitted responsibility for an “unintentional” strike. It said it was investigating.

    24 กรกฎาคม

    9:30 - 11:30 two trying hours

Sirius had his VET appt. this morning.
I took him back to the SPCA, where I took him as a pup, for neutering, tattoo, shots, etc..
He was excited to go along in the car this morning, and Eryn was interested in seeing the 'Doggy Doctor'.
I began to get a wee bit anxious when we got stuck in traffic...i didn't want to miss our appt. time.

Things began to quickly unravel from there...
Part of me had a sense of humour about it, and the other part was just trying to survive the morning with as much 'grace' as possible in front of the kids (the Kar-mama is in the house).
    breathe
    i kept telling myself

Where the SPCA is here, is next to the local college, so parking is an issue.
    The clinic had limited parking.
There was one spot left, one the end.
but the IDIOT who parked next to it, parked ON the line.
parking stalls these days are small enough (I remember they used to be bigger...back in the 70's...)
So I had to reverse a few times to creep into the only spot left. Luckily, it's on the end, so I can unload from the side.
But, I had to climb over the seat and the dog to get out
(yes, I let him ride inthe passenger seat..he LOVES it)
Once Aiden was unloaded, I had to drag Eryn over the 2 car seats and out the opposite door, not easy now she's 30 + lbs..
    OH
but before I unloaded her, I discovered Aiden had poo'ed, so I opened the back of the van (I've been experimenting with seat position/configurations, so the back seat is installed reverse, so you face the back window...lucky for me today, since that made it a HELL of alot easier to change aiden's poo bum)
and changed him on the back seat...THEN drug Eryn across the car seats to load her in the stroller...
    THEN, got the dog out.

The whole time I'm sweating doing this, I'm choked at the idiot who  FAILED to park their fancy black 4 door Mercedes in the lot, and parked it like  there's nobody else in the whole world.........
So, once loaded and ready to go, 3 kids in hand, I'm looking around trying to spy who the owner is of the car...to give them a piece of my mind...for SHO !
I'm wheeling the stroller and dog toward the front door of the clinic. I see a fellow standing inside...just watching me...
    So
I open the door, prop the front of the stroller against it to hold it open , so I could try to get the dog in first .
The guy is just standing there
hesitating like he wants to come OUT of the door, but I'm in his way.
    So I stop
    look him in the face
(and I knew in that instant, it was HIS car)
    and I say to him;
Either help me with the door,
    or leave,
because just standing there, you're not helping me.
    so
of course, he goes to leave, and walk past me..
    as he does i say
    OH
    excuse me,
    Is that YOUR car?
    he hesitates...yes.....
So i give him a piece of my mind,
and explained  to him ALL that I had to do,
with the kids and dog etc... to get out of my car
JUST because he couldn't care less about anybody else in the world
and MAYBE next time he might just consider that what he does effects others, and that's why they take the time to actually PAINT the lines in the parking lot.
    I could have gone on...
like the fact that he had a daughter and what kind of example is he setting..
mind you, it's too late for her already, she was ALL that and a bag of chips at 16...
both dad & daughter dressed in names, with stereo typica,l neglected, over excited, frothing rottweiler in hand.....barely...
    ugh
but what got me most was his absolute look of astonishment on his face..
like he had NO idea what I was talking about...
even in the first exchange about standing in the door way...doing nothing...
    he just looked:   DUH.....HUH?

I checked with the receptionist; Did that fellow speak English?
    yeah? she asked questioningly...
I updated her on the whole story..as well as the rest of the folks in the FULL waiting room, they had already heard the exchange at the door while he's just standing there watching me struggle with door, dog and stroller...

ALL that just to get in the door...unbelievable...and funny tooo

SO there's a few terrified cats there, a couple over excited panting dogs, me, my LOUD kidlets and my 73lb dog (we got him weighed)
I try to keep my 'posse' to the one side, and Eryn away from the terrified cats, which she has limited experience with..
For most of the 45 minute wait in the waiting room...Eryn delighted the folks..she was tender and careful with the cats, and loved listening to them make their terrified MEOW sounds..she thought  it sounded funny..
By the end of our wait , Aiden was SCREAMING, he either wanted a nap RIGHT THEN< or he wanted OUT of the stroller, and neither was happening , so he was screeching, then Eryn began too...tired from all the waiting, and by this time Sirius could 'smell' the fear, so he kept heading towards the door, and would try to dash out every time it opened..
and I'm wondering to myself, why I thought I could do this WITH the kids...
    too late now...
we FINALLY get into the appt..
Sirius is fairly cooperative, just timid mostly.
    he has one 'bad' tooth.
It's cracked, but not infected or otherwise rotting..
It's been that way for 3 yrs now..I've been keeping a close eye on it.
The last diagnosis said; if he had to 'go under' for anything else, they'd take the tooth out...otherwise leave it.
This Vet. said the same, just keep close eye on it, otherwise his teeth are good, considering he chews rocks, sticks and whatnot.
Least the sticks keep tartar from his teeth, but it wears them down plenty too.
He had a good 'going over'
and got a clean bill of health.
She recommended de-worming him, since he's near the kids..
    just to be safe..
so we got that stuff...plus the usual anti-flea pills.....CHA CHING...... $200 later ....
THAT will be fun poo to clean up :)
    can't wait!
So, Sirius is up to date on all vaccines and is a healthy robust mutt!

I wanted to stop by the local office to get his new license, but the kids were still screaming by that time, so I said
    Foook that!
    I'm going HOME

I was exhausted just from the events this morning!
    2 hours for a 10 minute appt.
    sheesh
next time:  note to self:   NO KIDS

I need an ICE cold Heineken

    23 กรกฎาคม

miserable morning of mishaps, or a series of unfortunate events..

    funny how things turn out
and I admire in myself the ability to; 'go with the flow'....least eventually  (hehehe)

Nana Mae came over Friday morning, thanks  again Mae, to keep an eye on the kids while I packed up the van.
My 'dream' to have it pre-packed and drive away was long gone.
By 10:30 I was ready to hit the road. Nana Mae & Papa Bill loaded up the kids in the van while I scrambled to locate the  now missing keys (HATE it when that happens).
The pressure was ON , as I knew they had an appt to go to and it was already 26 degrees and stifling the the packed van, now with the kids in it too.... BOY was I sweating!!!
    FINALLY found the bloody keys!
Eryn was SO excited to go. the whole time I was coming and going from the house, loaded the van, Nana was explaining that we were going camping, etc...
Eryn has an idea of what that is..she was VERY excited to be going camping!

So, finally, loaded and ready to go...off we went..couple quick errands on the way, and we were off to the mountains. Eryn had fallen asleep within the first 30 minutes. Aiden had just risen from his nap when we left so he was full of beans and looking for trouble since Eryn was sleeping.  We're driving up the mountains roads and Aiden is unappeasable. He didn't want food, drink or toys, nor soother..he wanted OUT of his car seat.
We FINALLY reach the park gates,
and the lady tells me that ALL the spots are full and gone.
    I exclaimed,
but check out time is in 10 minutes, and I saw a ton of people leaving on my way in.
    Well
    she told me
our gates open at 7am and there was a large line up before the gates opened this morning,  for any first come first serve sites available. THAT was 3 hours ago.
    FOOoooock
She gave me some brochures and turned me around.
    On our decent, Eryn woke, saw all the beautiful trees and said;
    Mommy, we go camping!

    broke my heart.

When I stopped to get gas, I tried making a few phone calls to some of the camp grounds run privately. I had already stopped by one 'private' camping, on our mountain decent,
but it was awful;  2 swings a few trees, NO fires, NO water and nothing to do...
not for $20 a night thanks anyways!
I called a nice camping by buntzen lake, but it's been full for weeks. Then the pay phone wouldn't take my quarters anymore, so I dialed the operator, to help me, and she asked for my credit card number  !!!! TO MAKE A LOCAL CALL!!!   So I went inside the gas station, to ask to use their phone, and the lady pointed to the pay phone I just came from
GGRRRrrrrrr... I was getting ready to blow!
I told her it didn't work!
A REALLY nice man came to my rescue and handed me his cell.
I called a couple more campings (for tent spots) ...FULL
I called Gary, told him I didn't know what to do, because ALL the campings were full.
The kids are still crying away in the hot van during all this...

I still had an hours drive back home.
The kids were starving, and all their food was packed away in the cooler somewhere. So, I stopped at MacDonalds...drive thru, of course...and even the 'food' if you can call it that..was nasty, the fries were double fried and crunchy, and my soda was more water than fizz...

By this time Eryn was just sobbing and saying she wanted to go to our home.
    So , home we went.
Finally arrived back home by 1pm or so...STIFLING hot!
I brought the kids inside, then had to make several more trips to bring in all the essentials, like food, diapers, drinks, etc...UGH

    WHAT a frustrating morning.
Was wishing I was still taking those 'happy pills'...but a few deeeeeeeeeeeep breaths..and I was doing ok.
FINALLY, the kids cooled down, ate, and went for a nap.
I opened the first of our camping beers!
Gary offered that we could 'camp' in his parents huge private yard.
I considered that for a while...

Then, by the time Saturday arrived, our air conditioning had been hooked up and running
so NOW we were spoiled....33 degrees and muggy outside  (NO breeze to speak of on Saturday)
and we're cool and dry inside.
NO WAY was I going to do all that 'work' to sleep in a yard in this heat!
The neighbors party upstairs was more subdued than we anticipated

So instead of camping, we rented to kiddie videos and PS2 games for Gary & me, drank our camping beer and ate our camping kabobs and stayed cool and dry.
PLUS we got a ton of household stuff done...
LIKE, I finally got all the kids clothes sorted.
ALL the clothes that have been taking up space in their closets that they don't fit anymore.
It's a big undertaking, esp with 2 tiny toddlers.
Our bedroom looks like a bedroom again, instead of a refuge for laundry in various states of cleanliness.
And the kids drawers are actually being used...they are full of clean folded garments.
    what a novel idea....

    20 กรกฎาคม

    camping countdown

    OK
    here we go
this time tomorrow I'll be ready to head out the door...
that means I got a lot to do today
    heading to Costco is first,
gotta grab a pack or two of their marinated kabobs, vacuum sealed  (YUM)
and our new family cooler guarantees 5 days of COLD keeping, so just a bit of Ice is all we'll need
    I am missing firewood
I've been looking around for some free neighborhood stuff...
    I ain't 'buying' any, that's just lazy.
gotta pack up some kids toys, lotsa clothes and baby wipes, and bug repellent (though it'll be nothing like the bugs out on the prairies)
Can't forget the dog, gotta bring his stuff sealed up...(we went camping once, years ago, and a bear made off with Sirius' dog food, which was just bagged, glad it was at the crack of dawn when it happened..imagine at night..that woulda been scary)
Got to pick up the portable playpen from Mae & Bill's
maybe borrow their camping stove too...hehe

Once Gary's back from work, I'll pack up the van, so that tomorrow morning, I'll just drive away.
find our 'spot' then give Gary a ring to let him know where we are..I'm sure by the time he arrives I'll be ready for a looong walk alone with the dog....(ooo, still have to locate his leash..we'll need that too)
Yup, I'm looking forward to heading up to the mountains, beautiful glacier fed alpine lake, second growth protected forest, bears, eagles, coyotes, squirrels, tons of birds and jays, deer, grouse and the smells of the forest, campfires and cooking food, can't wait.
I'll bring my video camera..it's not digital, but I can edit the footage in Adobe and cut some stills to post as photos
Just not the same as my powershot......sigh...
    but it's something

    have a good weekend!
    cheers, from the Kar-mama
    18 กรกฎาคม

A whole week without my camera!

     wow
One week gone by and no blog entry

definitely feeling lost without my camera
You don't know how many times I've said, already, I WISH I HAD MY CAMERA
    like last night,
My girlfriend, Dara, had like 8 pairs of shoes to give me (YAY)
they're all 'teacher' shoes and the 'professional' type I could wear to work..with heels and all
    well
when I brought them home last night, Eryn was SO adorable.
She was ogling over every shoe. She'd try them on and walk and stomp around the house.
SO bloody cute, but NO camera
    sigh

Also, no camera to distract me...
There's also been lots of other 'stuff' going on....
    so my mind's been pretty....er...preoccupied.....distracted.....
I've been going to counseling (well, for months now) , to help deal with the loss of my mother, among other things..
    and most recently,
we've been dealing with my 'memory loss' from early childhood, figuring out what was going on that  I didn't want to remember
So, dealing with heavy stuff like child abuse, has left me feeling pretty drained.
I've also given up on the 'anti-depressants'  as my body seems to be telling me to quit them.
Maybe more information than you were looking for, but HEY, it's my blog and that's what's going on...
And with no camera to distract me and feed me continual 'material'  to work with, write about and share...
I've been looking in my closets, so to speak..
Nothing like being a parent/mom to bring up 'old stuff' that needs dealing with.
    ugh

    In other news,
    We're going CAMPING this weekend!
Our landlords above us are having a big party this weekend, over 35 guests.
So, we decided maybe it would be better to just NOT be home.
So we're going to try camping ..for the first time...
    I say
    for the first time
because I'm expecting that camping with toddlers is going to be SUCH a different camping experience than I'm used to, that it'll feel like a first.
    AND
because we have to get a 'first come first serve' site
I'm heading out on Friday morning
(we're not going far, just to the local mountains)
    me and the kids
    just me
    and the kids.
Gary will be working until 5pm, then he'll drive out and join us.

    Am I crazy?
    What am I thinking?
heading out on our first camping trip
alone with the kids? and the dog?
    Well
    there's the challenge of it
    but
believe me, I called around asking for 'joiners' or someone to hang out with me for the day,
    but no confirmations..
so, I'll likely be by myself
I am looking forward to it though
I've got no expectations and I know I'll have to take things slowly
and have Eryn 'help' me, and keep Aiden confined somehow...
    But the challenge ....
    can I do it?
of course I CAN, but  HOW will I do it?
    with grace?
or with a lot of sweat? and swearing?
I know I'll be wishing I had my camera!!!!

least I won't have to worry about rain this week
Don't think there's rain anywhere in North America all week
Sure glad I'm not living in the Middle-East
Sure glad I'm living in the BEst Place On Earth!!!!

    let's PLAY!!!!

The past couple weeks, the kids have been driving me nuts...I've finally put my finger on why..
    they need more stimulation..
and not that they have NO  stimulation,
it's just I haven't updated the toys in about a year..
so to them, they're all 'baby' toys

    I'm remedying that this week!

    * Costco had a good sale on kids tunnels and tents, so I got a box of those.
    * Canadian tire had a good sale on their sand/water tables, plus the re-sale value of those is good, so I got an adorable sand/water table, with umbrella, and  in both the sand and water parts, there are bridges and roads for the toys, and a bag of 'play' sand is only $3
    AND
    * I gave Papa Bill a sketch I made of a 'play table'. I know he has a ton of 'extras' around, so I asked if he could see about building me one with his scraps of wood. I want a wooden rack underneath to hold baskets too, for all the toys...
Eryn and Aiden love playing blocks still, but Aiden always, inadvertently or not, knocks everything over. So if they had a nice low table to play at..that would solve the problem.
It will also double as a coffee table at night..so it's nice to be able to throw all the toys somewhere.
and 'homemade' or not, play tables re-sale for near $100.
So, maybe, by the end of this week, we'll have a whole new toddler friendly play house.
with tents, tunnels, play tables for race tracks, trains, farms, castles, Lego..and an outdoor sand/water table to compliment the kiddie pool.
Now I just got to teach Aiden to keep all the sand IN the table!
and that it's NOT for eating!

Time to be rid of all the stacking toys, rattles, chew toys, shaky toys and everything BABY
we're ready for the world of TODDLER TOYS

    60 day replacement guarantee!

    apparently
    future shop
    the store I so loathe
has a 60 day replacement guarantee..
meaning, if they can't fix it and get it back to me within 60 days, then I get a brand spanking new one
and this canon, they'll have to ship back to Ontario....
so I'm thinkin...a new one may be on it's way to me....

    we'll see
    60 days commences TODAY
    let the count down begin

    photo withdrawl.... click happy addict

    sigh
    well
looks like my photo taking will be on 'hold' for god-knows-how-long.
Seems my trusty Canon Powershot....powered down
I've no idea what's wrong, but with a fresh battery..it does NOTHING...
    so that's a 'loss'
    but
thank GOD I had the foresight to get the 3 yr. extended warranty thingy on it from future shop.
I used to NEVER get those, but last year, about 2 months after I got the camera, I noticed they had them on sale cheaper, so I went it to get my 'price guarantee' thing, and put the extra money toward the warranty....
knowing I was using it EVERYDAY in every way, usually w/o a camera case..since it fits into pockets so well...
so here we are, JUST a year since purchasing this camera brand new..and it's conked out on me..

So, while I'm relieved that I'll be able to get it 'fixed'..I've no idea how long they will hold it hostage from me.
    could be weeks....
in the mean time I will suffer from 'click happy' withdrawal....
I didn't realize, til the camera shut down on me, how often I use it, I take it nearly everywhere with me.
    It's become a real hobby...sigh
    I will miss it...
but hopefully it wont take long for them to fix my lil' buddy.
but it IS future shop after all, so I wouldn't be surprised if they lost the bloody thing...
(i hate future shop...HATE it..but they did have the best price on these camera's...)

so enjoy the pics..cause you'll be seeing the same ones for a while...
    sniff...

    the final frontier

The 'home' search has been continuing...every single day.
This week, I 've seen about 4 different homes...
    NOTHIN
nothin I'd want to raise my kids in.
    It's so frustrating.

    One ad I called about,
    was already leased,
but the fella wanted to ask me some questions...
    so we're chatting, and he says;
'ah, there's lots to rent out there, you'll find something.
    I say;
wish that were true, I've been looking for MONTHS now.
then he gets to asking me how many in the family and how old the kids are  (no mention of a pet of any kind yet)
    and he says;
yeah, I wouldn't have rented to you..2 small kids..........
I said; this is exactly the reason why it's so hard to find a nice 'home'
    and I hung up on him...ass..wipe  >:(

I've GOT to describe this one house I went to see.
It was a whole house for..well advertised for $1600/mo, but he said he'd 'give' it to me for $1400/mo
    HA
the neighborhood and  location were awesome, the size of the place was great, pets was no problem..

but there were LOTS of other problems...ahem..here we go:
    first of all;
It was an old house, and I was already privy to information about the property, because I 'd already been to see the house behind this one , that was for rent last month. THAT was a decent sorta place, but 2 bdrms and just too small, considering the basement wasn't really usable.
    anyways
I knew from the owners of the other house, that these houses would be coming down soon, once the development plans were done.
But, sometimes that can take a few years..
so I thought I'd have a look at the other house, since I knew it was bigger.

We (me & Eryn) got there and met the landlord....
who was SUCH a cliche of his 'people & culture'
I had to stop myself from laughing a couple times.
He guides me thru the house....eeuw

-first of all it stank ....like 15 years of cat piss
-the light switches and outlets were often missing covers or pieces of the covers.
-there was mold in the insulation
-none of the windows were very secure, some couldn't even close all the way
-every room had a different type of flooring
-the closets were all missing doors
    -the kitchen sink leaked
-I wont even describe the condition of the decrepit bathrooms
-there was at least 10yrs of oil filth and disgust on the oven hood  (euw)
-there was no lawn mower, even though we'd 'be in charge of that'
-the entire 'yard' was an overgrown dump.
-there were abandoned appliances and other pieces of the house on the property
-the huge basement wasn't secure. there were 4 rooms down there with no doors whatsoever, a family of    raccoons could be living in there.
-the steps from the large patio to the 'yard' were very questionable.
-all the paint in all the rooms was VERY poorly done (not to mention the gross colours..one was a dark grey clay colour)
-the flooring in every room was destroyed to some degree.
-did I mention the whole house stank?
-none of the kitchen cupboard doors hung straight or even closed, or could even open properly.
-you could hardly see through the windows
-one window in the 'living room' looked out onto a rubbish heap as the previous owner built an 'illegal' room and had to tear it down...and just left it there.

So near the end of the 'tour' when he can see that I'm not at all impressed, he tries 'sweetening' the deal, and pressuring me into a lease

I just looked at him agape...slack jawed...
    what a stereotype..
    sheesh
as I'm leaving he even has the balls to ask to keep him in mind if I know of someone wanting to rent

    HA
all that for $1400/mo?  (plus hydro)
you've got to be fooking kidding me.
And some people wonder why the teachers want to be paid more.
I can't even find a decent rental house for my family, in the district I teach in.

    grrrrr
If British Columbia wasn't 'Gods' country' and 'the best place on earth'
    I would move somewhere CHEAP
    and that would be easy,
there are at least another 9  provinces to choose from...
and all would be cheaper than this one
    but
    THIS
is the best place on Earth!
and I would like to raise my children here.

    current THEME songs

I've found a 'new' theme song, aside from the somber Coldplay song
It's the first song playing on my site

Here's the lyrics:  It's a bit repetitive, but so is breathing....

    Artist: Telepopmusik
    Title: Breathe

I brought you something close to me,
Left for something you see though your here.
    You haunt my dreams
There's nothing to do but believe,
    Just Believe.
    Just Breathe.

    Another day, just believe,
    Another day, just breathe
    Another day, just believe,
    Another day. Just breathe.

I'm used to it by now.
    Another day, just believe.
    Just breathe. Just believe.
    Just breathe.
    Lying in my bed,
Another day, staring at the ceiling.

    Just breathe. Another day.
    Another day, just believe.
    Another day.
I'm used to it by now.
I'm used to it by now.
    Just breathe. Just believe.
    Just breathe. Just believe.
    Just believe. Just breathe.
    Just believe.
    Another day, just believe.
    Another day.
    Another day, just believe,
    Another day, just breathe,
    Another day (I do believe).
    Another day(so hard to breathe)
Another day(not so hard to believe)
    Another day. Another day.
eventually we will find our 'home'...just gotta beleive.....and breathe

second 'theme' song is the mouse & the model.
here's the lyrics, makes for a much more interesting read..than the last song.
I dreamt that I was dreaming, I was wired to a clock,
Tickled by the minute hand tick tock tick tock,
I dream I'm on a train and it is making music,
I don't remember getting on clickity click clickity click,
I dreamt that I was very tall, I was bigger than King Kong,
I heard the bells the bells a'ringing a'ding dong ding dong,
I dreamt that I was sitting in the devil's company,
He gave a solemn promise fe fi fi fun for me,
I dreamt that I was chasing the monster out of me,
I caught him in the corner ha ha hee hee hee,
I dream I'm in a tunnel between here and now,
Scooby do-be where would you be bow wow wow wow,
I dream I'm at a crossroads no place left to go,
I look in each direction eenie meanie miny mo,
I dream I am an ostrich head deep in the sand,
There is a rhythm that's a playing fantastic elastic band,
I dreamt that the bogeyman went down on Mr Spock
Sugar was a flowing sock it to 'em sock
I dreamt I saw a moo cow jump across the moon
Just a flight of fantasy zoom zoom zoom
I dreamt I met a spaceman he took me to his ship,
You know he cut my hair off snip snip snip
I dreamt that I was sleeping asleep for heaven's sake
The dream that I was dreaming caused me to awake
I dreamt that I was way up I was standing on the top
With the feeling I was falling bop beep bop
I dreamt that I was jumping in a circus through a hoop,
Someone saw the lights off shoo-be-doop
I dreamt that I was fast I was never shutting up,
    I was going in a hurry I was giddy-up giddy-up
I dream I'm in the park I'm standing in the nudey,
I was getting what I wanted tootie fruity tootie fruity,

City of nearly 3 million deserted..

Couldn't have asked for better weather ALL long weekend!
It was gorgeous, if not a bit troublesome to fall asleep in a stuffy warm house by the end of the day.
The kids got LOTS of Daddy time, as I got the chance to busy myself with other household tasks. One, namely was rearranging rooms. I managed to rearrange the furniture in the kids room, so that while in their cribs, they're unable to see each other...this was easier than I thought, and a heck of a lot easier than trying to hang a curtain.  So far , so good, the strategy seems to work...though each nap and bedtime the kids were thoroughly exhausted anyways...we'll see what happens this week.
I also rearranged our 'den' from a 'library/storage place, to the kids playroom, so now our shelves and books are in the living room again..like a real living room, instead of a 'daycare'  AND , even though a grumbly grouchy husband told me doing all that was a waste of time, he begrudgingly admitted, at the end of the day, that the house never looked so good.   HA

We took the kids, including the furry one, to the river this weekend. The water level was nice and low, considering we haven't had rain in a couple weeks. The kids loved playing at the water's edge, along the river banks. The furry kid was a bit more adventurous and fetched sticks no matter where in the river we threw them. Got lots of pics of that trip, in the big photo album above..

Monday was the big family BBQ at Nana & Papa Bill's house. All the cousins had a great time playing in the yard with the pool and sprinkler.  It was an awesome BBQ, coolers full of drinks and chips everywhere.  Jenn (Gary's Sis) was in charge of BBQing the burgers...it got away from her a bit.. A set of Gary's Aunt & uncles w/ kids came over as well. At a certain point, after eating, Aiden started his melt down. I turned to Mae and asked; Is it close to 7pm?  Sure enough it was 7:02, that was our cue to leave and pack it in for the night. He went straight home..not hard to do , being only 3 blocks away, and the kids were FAST asleep by 8pm.

Be sure to check out all the weekend pics in my photo album above.
    What a great long weekend!
I LOVE the fact that on long weekends, our city's population is nearly halved, as the mass populace heads outta town for the weekend, leaving the city near deserted, in comparison, I LOVED IT.

    here's to another warm week!!!!
